New Visitor Center site is being prepared for construction

Cleanup has begun at the site of the new Refuge Visitor Center on Overseas Highway, just east of the traffic signal on Big Pine Key. More than two dumpsters of garbage have been removed from the site, in addition to concrete debris and chain link fencing. Several invasive species were removed from the site, as well as treated on the adjacent county‑owned lot. Work will continue through the spring and summer of 2016.

KDPA has endorsed an effort by the Florida Land and Water Legacy to pass a constitutional amendment which would earmark a portion of the documentary stamp fee on every real estate transaction to be used for the purchase and preservation of environmentally sensitive lands. We would encourage visitors sign the petition form to get it on the ballot. Click HERE for the form.
